Cujo the Killer Narcoleptic Hamster

We miss your Smile, your Gentleness,
And watching The Hammie 500.

Cujo declined rather suddenly.  I'd noticed a bit of bloating, and kept an eye on him. One day, while he was coming out for a visit, I felt wetness. At first I thought the dreaded "Wet Tail," but no. Worse. We examined a sample at the vets and found an unidentifiable (at that point) protozoa. I declined sending it away for analysis since protazoal infections are usually treated with Metronidazole. This turned out to be the least of his problems. He got worse. In the end, there was nothing to do but put him out of his misery. We had a gross autopsy done, and found that he had gone into kidney and liver failure, and the bloating was caused by feces impacted in the large intestine. I wish I had known, I would have euthanized him sooner. My biggest regret is that he is my first furry that I could not be with at the end.
